Are you currently in the process of researching as much as you can about clear aligner treatment? If so, it can be helpful to reach out to your dentist. That said, it’s not always convenient to get on the phone. If that’s the case for you, then you’ll be happy to hear that this blog is dedicated to answering common questions about Invisalign, including how long it takes and if you can drink coffee during your teeth-straightening journey.
Question #1: How Long Does Invisalign Take?
Each Invisalign treatment plan is customized to the patient’s unique dental needs, including how complex their case is, how many aligners they need, and if single-arch treatment is possible. With that said, there is an average: 12-18 months. If you’re interested in learning how long your teeth-straightening journey will be, then schedule a consultation with your dentist so they can provide you with an estimate.
Question #2: Is There Anything I Can’t Eat with Invisalign?
There aren’t any foods that are completely off-limits. There are, however, some that increase your risk of tooth decay, gum disease, a loose attachment, and other complications. Raw nuts, tortilla chips, and gummy candies are a few examples. It’s also a good idea not to chew on things like ice, your nails, or the back of your pen since these could result in a dental or orthodontic emergency.
Question #3: How Do I Clean My Aligners?
You’ll be happy to hear that cleaning your aligners is easy. In fact, you’ll only need to dedicate a minute or two to this task each day! Start by rinsing your trays thoroughly with clean, cool water each time you take them out. Then, place them gently in their designated storage case to eat or complete your oral hygiene regimen. Lastly, use clean, cool water and a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove debris from the surface before putting them back in your mouth.
Question #4: Can I Drink Coffee with Invisalign?
If you love starting your morning with a hot cup of coffee or enjoying an iced latte in the afternoons, you’ll be happy to hear that your orthodontic treatment won’t get in the way. All you have to do is remove your aligners first!
Question #5: What Happens After Invisalign?
After your Invisalign treatment comes to an end, it’s time to move onto the next phase of your orthodontic treatment: the retention phase. The goal at this point is to keep your teeth in their perfectly aligned positions with a custom retainer, which you will wear every evening while you sleep.
